The indicator gives the number of care days for those aged 17-74 who have received care in a psychiatric institution per 1000 persons of the same age during the year. Population figures refer to mean population. The indicator covers all psychiatric inpatients wards in the public sector (municipalities, joint municipal boards and the state). No psychiatric inpatient care is provided in the private sector. Care days during the year refers to all care days falling within the calendar year. The number of care days is calculated as the difference between the date of discharge (or 31 Dec) and the date of admission (or 1 Jan), that is, excluding the day of discharge.
