The indicator gives the number of care days during the year for those aged 75 and over who have received inpatient hospital care per 1000 persons of same age. Population figures refer to mean population. The indicator covers hospital care in the public sector (municipalities, joint municipal boards and the state), as well as in private sector hospitals. Psychiatric hospitals are included, and hospital care also include deliveries.Care days during the year refers to all care days falling within the calendar year. The number of care days is calculated as the difference between the date of discharge (or 31 Dec) and the date of admission (or 1 Jan), that is, excluding the day of discharge. If the date of discharge and the date of admission are identical, the number of care days will be one.
