Aineisto kattaa Liikenneviraston ylläpitämän maantieverkon. Tierekisteriin viedään kaikki yleisillä teillä olevat alikulkukorkeutta rajoittavat esteet. Sähkö-, yms. kaapeleista otetaan mukaan vain rauta- ja raitioteiden ajojohdot. Alikulkupaikan tieosoite määräytyy ko. esteen puolivälin mukaan (esim. risteävien teiden keskilinjat). Tapaus, jossa kaksi ajorataisella tiellä molemmilla ajoradoilla on oma siltansa, katsotaan alimenevän tien kannalta yhdeksi alikulkupaikaksi. Varsinainen alikulkukorkeus ilmoitetaan tietolajilla 263, koska korkeus voi olla erilainen eri ajosuunnissa.
