Aineisto kattaa Liikenneviraston ylläpitämän maantieverkon. Tieosien jakopisteet on pääsääntöisesti sijoitettu liittymiin jolloin tiedetään, että pituudenmittaus aloitetaan risteävien teiden keskilinjojen leikkauspisteestä. Mikäli tästä säännöstä joudutaan poikkeamaan (tapaukset 1-6) täytyy tällä tietolajilla yksilöidä jakopisteen paikka yksikäsitteisesti. Myös hoitoalueen rajan tai jonkin muun tärkeän, mittauksia palvelevan kiintopisteen kuvaaminen on tässä mahdollinen.
