Aineisto kattaa Liikenneviraston ylläpitämän maantieverkon. Välikaistalla tarkoitetaan sitä aluetta, joka jää ajoradan ja kevyen liikenteen väylän väliin. Ajoratojen välissä oleva tila on keskikaista eikä sitä inventoida tälle tietolajille. Mikäli välikaistaa ei ole maalattu päällysteeseen tai erotettu reunakivellä, katsotaan se alkavaksi päällysteen reunasta.
