Aineisto kattaa Liikenneviraston ylläpitämän maantieverkon. Tietolajille kirjataan tien vastakkaisia ajosuuntia erottavat alueet lyhyitä, alle 25 metriä pitkiä liittymäkanavointeja lukuunottamatta. Keskialue voi muodostaa fyysisen esteen tai se voi olla vain ajorataan maalattu. Jälkimmäisessä tapauksessa tiellä ei ole kahta erillistä ajorataa. Rampilla ei ole keskialuetta vaan kyseessä on tällöin kaksi eri ramppia.
