Aineisto kattaa Liikenneviraston ylläpitämän maantieverkon. Tämä tietolaji perustuu kahden peräkkäisen tienkohdan suhteellisen korkeuseron selvittämiseen barometria (ilmanpaine) käyttäen. Menetelmällä pyritään saamaan karkea kuva tasausviivan taitepisteistä, joten mittaus suoritetaan yleensä vain mäen päällä ja laakson pohjassa. Mittaus suoritetaan keskitetysti (erilliset ohjeet), käsitellään omalla esijärjestelmällään ja siirretään sitten tierekisteriin.
