Aineisto kattaa Liikenneviraston ylläpitämän maantieverkon. Kaarteen inventointi tapahtuu kirjaamalla kaarteen alku- ja loppupiste sekä montako astetta (gyroskooppi) tie niiden välillä kääntyy. Näin saadaan kaarteen keskuskulma ja kuljetun matkan perusteella kaarteelle laskennallinen kaarteisuus (kulma/pituus) sekä säde. Tämä säde on aina todellista sädettä suurempi, koska siirtymäkaaria ei erota maastossa. Koska erittäin suurilla säteillä ei ole merkitystä, jätetään ne ilmoittamatta jos kyseessä on suora tai säde on yli 60 000 metriä. Mittaus suoritetaan keskitetysti (erilliset ohjeet). Tulokset käsitellään keskitetysti omalla esijärjestelmällään ja siirretään sitten tierekisteriin.
