Accidental Deaths Excluding Road Traffic Deaths Among Population Aged 1-7 per 100,000 Persons of Same Age in Finland

The indicator gives the number of accidental deaths (excl. road traffic deaths) for those aged 1-17 and their death rate per 100 000 inhabitants by sex. Mortality figures are non-standardised. The cause-of-death statistics cover the deaths in Finland or abroad (during the calendar year) of persons who at the time of death were residents of Finland regardless of their nationality. The statistics practically have a full coverage of deaths as the death data are verified by comparing them with data in the Population Information System. The number of deaths in the vital statistics is higher than that of the cause-of-death statistics. The number of deaths based on the Population Information System does not refer to the number of deaths during the calendar year as it may also contain deaths from the five previous years in cases where the death data have been received at the time of compiling the statistics of the statistical year concerned (between 1 January 2003 and 31 January 2004). Similarly, the vital statistics data do not include people who have deceased in 2003 if they have been registered as deceased later than 1 February 2004. The population figures refer to mean population. Population proportions are calculated at THL based on the Population Statistics of Statistics Finland.
